Throttle body cleaning.
I have read the sticky from spike how to clean the tb. My questions. It saids to not get to much inside the intake. So I just spray with the butterfly thing open or close? I don't want to get to much into that part? Thanks.
I cleaned both sides, and the bore it swings thru, to be sure it was not binding. Used spray carb cleaner and a brush. Formed a small pool behind the butterfly as there is a lip back there. Held throttle open and sopped that up. I imagine that if you allowed a large quantity of carb cleaner to gush into the intake that would not be desired. Seems like there are some passages in the TB bore to get at, these go down to IACV and the PCV ports. If you fill those with solvent and liquified goop, things won't work like they should. In other words, to clean one there is mor ethan the butterfly valve plate.
I also used the carb cleaner to clear out the PCV hoses from both intakes. On passenger side there is squiggly oil separator in the valve cover fitting that can get clogged. On the TB side, it is a short hone that goes into the TB, and the orifice it used on my TB was obstructed, I used a Qtip and what came out looked like wheel bearing grease. The PCV system normally sucks filtered air from TB to valve cover and out the other side to intake. But under wide open throttle, or certain other conditions, the TB can suck air from PCV system into TB. That would contribute to the gunk on the butterfly.
While you are at it clean the IACV, and the bore it pokes into. Don't adjust the pintle end, just spray clean. Squirt some WD40 or such on your throttle linkage.
What ever you do, DON'T use carb cleaner on the MAF. It needs a spaecial made-for-MAF spray, like CRC, and only done when stone cold.
