Transfer Case Whine - time before its completely shot
#12
Cool, not a bad idea if I say so myself. They're not usually a fail item but your mileage is getting up there where having one handy is not a bad idea at all if for no other reason than peace of mind. If you do find one see if there's a transmission fixed to it...... and maybe a motor after that..... bundle, always bundle your deals........

I just had my transfer case fail last week...I've been moving and driving a bunch with loads and noticed a slight whine which I isolated as the transfer case. I figured I could wait until this move was done before attending to it, but it decided to go on it's own timeframe. On one trip back empty it started whining a lot more, and at one point starting from a light it "lurched". I continued, backed it into my driveway to do a load, and when I went to leave I put it in drive and it went about 5 feet and locked up. I found a used one and changed it out in the driveway, and continued moving, only losing a day and a half. I guess I would say to just pay attention to the whine for changes, and start looking for a replacement.
