Default Transmission Oil Cooler Leak--Not the Hoses

My 97 Disco SE has developed a small leak in the transmission oil cooler. I am looking for a replacement, but am having a hard time finding one in the condition and price I'd like. Does anyone have suggestions on a universal tube style cooler or another vehicle or part # that will work in the disco? I've looked at Summit Racing so I know there are tube style universals available. I'm looking for a recomendation on a specific brand/model.

I'm also open to buying a part off of someone if they have a good cooler available.

See attached. The front "towel bar" cooler is in addition to the driver side cooler inside the radiator. I would suppose that you could use an aftermarket cooler as well. Or boneyard or dismantler like Paul Grant who posts frequently on this site, he has parted out like 500 Rovers.

Just go to NAPA and buy one that fits your budget, follow the instructions and install it, you dont need a big one.

I got a good used (OEM) cooler for my 94 disco from Heritage... $40 for it (no rust and in good shape) and I also got all the lines for another $40... I delt with a guy named Caleb...

I tried the solder fix on mine, but what I found out is that Rover used the wrong type of sold in the first place... The pipe rusted under the copper wire coils they had soldered on at the factory... The rest of the pipe was fine... When I removed the copper wire I found the entire length of the pipe was eroded away directly under where it had beeen soldered to the coils...

I suspect galvanic erosion was at work here...

you could take it to a indy rad shop and see if they can seal the leak. they were able to fixs the leaks within the fins of my radiator.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I ended up using silver solder to patch it. I had to unsolder and unwrap about 4" of coiling, but it cleaned up nicely and seems to be holding. I don't think the loss of coiling will cause any great problems. It failed in a spot where a support arm is mounted directly behind it and the coiling was crushed to allow it to fit in. I don't know if this is standard procedure when the towel bar is installed at the factory or if the front was in a minor fender bender.

That's how I started out fixing mine, but found within a few months I had another leak and then yet again another after than... I ended up heating the whole pipe with a torch and removing all the copper coil... That's when I found the pipe to be rusted directly under the areas the copper was soldered to the pipe... It was a candy cane spiral of rust the entire length of the pipe... Just mentioning this so that if you noticed any spiral rust under the 4" section you removed, then you might consider begining your replacement search now...
