Default Transmission Service

Hello all,

Just got a new engine (from Atlantic British) and have yet to install it (planning on it this weekend).

My truck is 97 Disco with 158K on transmission.

I was hoping I can get some high mileage service advice. I was told every 60K to service the trans, but I bought the truck at 151K, and I have no idea if the previous owner serviced the trans at all.

I don't wanna open a can of worms.

I haven't had any issues with the trans since i owned the truck. It clunks into reverse every so often, but otherwise nothing peculiar.

So yeah, any help would be greatly appreciated.

get your motor in and everything worked out, then in a few weeks you can decide if you want to chance changing the fluid and filter.

That's definitely the plan!

Thanks.

Just change the oil in the differentials, almost easy, if they were neglected the transmission prolly is too.

I just changed mine, and left the filter alone, just two fluid swaps of about 5 quarts each, and now my 98 shifts like butter. Like butter.

You must love your disco to spend 6k on a motor plus the core charge. You probably could have had your block redone and built a new motor for less but I bet it's shiny! Double check your valve timing and adjustments before you put it back in.
