By the time you buy springs for $170 and then pony up the cash or decent shocks, couldnt you just add a little more green and get an entire kit?

Are there tags on the coils indicating which coil they are and also which one goes on the drivers front? As for the shocks, any standard length H.D. shock like the OME Sport shock or the new Iron Man gas or foam shocks will work well.
By the way, there is no difference in shock length between the passenger side and the drivers side.
Don't buy your shocks from Atlantic British, if you are looking at the Sport shock, buy it from Justin at Lucky 8 and save some money.

This would concern me as they should not be.

Have you gone to the site and looked at them? I would look at bothAB and OME's sites. I found this in a search, it is the most comprehensive data i have seen on OME Springs.

Old Man Emu Coil Springs -- EE -- Expedition Exchange Incorporated
Hi Danny,
Yeah, per your link:

DS & PS Springs
The DS and PS designations denote "Driver Side" and "Passenger Side". Most Old Man Emu springs are "handed" and intended to be installed to a specific side of the vehicle. We have found this system can work on the Defenders but does not work well on the Discoveries, Range Rover Classics, and P38 Range Rovers. These vehicles usually list toward the passenger side when fitted with handed springs.

Im guessing this is why he has the spring isolator installed on the passenger rear.

This disco is pretty much a $1000 toy that I bought as a platform for me to get better at wrenching. Shes been in minnesota winters and has the rust to prove it. Gonna do all the wire-sanding and painting I can to slow it, but Im guessing she doesnt have much more than 5 good years left, so Im not overly concerned with getting "best-of-the-best" for every part (Although I did use Amsoil for the diffs and transfer box. Boy, did that get expensive ).

Anyway that being said, I was gonna get a TF kit, but consensus seems that 10,000mi old OME stuff is better than new TF stuff. So, getting a full set of OME for half the cost of even new TF springs seems like a no-brainer.

I have OME springs, and my truck leans a bit to the passenger side. I guess from your quote of their website, the defenders don't have this problem? I also saw on OME's site that they don't recommend my specific springs (2764) for discos anyway... oh well. They were on the truck when I bought it.

When buying used, you want the best part you can get for the price, but most people do expect to recoup way too much when they try to sell used parts. I always consider what per centage of the "new" price are they asking and is it worth paying what most people try to get. Generally I will not pay the asking price that most people want for their used parts unless it is in really good condition. 30 to 50 cents on the dollar is a good general rule of thumb.

With a lot of the discounts available on new items on the internet, many used parts are not worth the asking price. Also be aware of counterfeit or wrong part altogether.

Someone had said rust would not matter on a spring, I disagree. Some surface rust will not, but any advanced rust definitely will be a negative factor on springs.

Well, I got em for the "30-50 cents on the dollar" range, so thats nice

I agree that there's a rust-threshold regarding degraded effectiveness. Though the one is bad, it looks like surface rust as far as i can tell.

For now, ill sand 'em and paint 'em. When I get shocks Ill throw 'em in and see what happens.
