vapor lock
i have a 07 disco w/4.0 and it seems to be vapor locking. when the engine is warm, it will cut out or sometimes backfire through the intake when trying to accelerate. also if i shut it off and try to restart when it is warm, then it doesn't want to start. if i bleed the vapor out of the fuel line it will then start. what is causing this??? any suggestions??? PLEASE help.
First it is NOT vapor locking, it is fuel injected and it is impossible for a fuel injected engine to vapor lock.
Vapor lock is when the fuel inside the in mechanical fuel pump on a carburetorated engine turns to vapor from to much heat build up and can not be pumped to the carburetor.
This sounds like a classic case of a bad VSS (vehicle speed sensor), it is the speed limiter for the truck, it sends a signal from the transmission to the ECU to tell it you are going to fast and it will kill cylinders on the engine to slow you down.
When it goes bad it sends bad signals, the engine runs rough, no power and kicks and bucks when trying to accelerate.
Most noticable when taking off from a stop or climbing a hill.

it's funny that you say that it's not a vapor lock, since when I depress the Schroeder valve, straight fuel vapor comes out for a good 5-10 seconds before any liquid fuel appears. I would consider this to be a vapor lock. I need to know what is causing this condition... but the symptoms are the same as the VSS issue. I will try this, but first, could anyone tell me where to find cheaper parts than the dealership?(WAY TOO EXPENSIVE)

Given the vapor, sounds like a bad fuel pump. No fuel delivery, left over fuel in the fuel rail causes it to turn to vapor from heat. Not called vapor lock tho. Spike defined vapor lock correctly.
I would start by testing the fuel pump.
