water vapor in the scape of FL 2003
I did change of oil and filter of my freelander 2003 v6 gas, because the !service engine soon light! is on, i use 20W 50 syntetic oil, because the milleage is of 106k, the light keep on and in the scape there are water vapor..... any idea????
Reading codes would be a good idea. White smoke from exhaust is one indicator of bad head gasket. There is a $50 chemical tester that you can buy at auto parts store to test for exhaust gas in coolant, does multiple tests.
Here's cooling system plumbing layout. At point 3 on the drawing the hot coolant passes thru the firewall and into the heater core (at all times when running). Vent flaps direct or block this heat. You can removed these hoses and splice together (auto parts stores sell hose splice double males with clamps). Then you can work out a schedule for repair. This is making you loose coolant, so be sure it is topped up or you will over heat and damage engine.
Normally people find that the entire truck was built around the heater core. The shop labor to reach and replace a core can be a surprise.
