Default Vehicle Speed Sensor question

Hi Guys,

I am in the process of replacing my VSS and the replacement part seems to be loose. The center part of the sensor (where the square shaft comes out) is fairly loose. It won't come out but it does wiggle around. Is this normal? I ask because the part came from the UK, new but had no packaging to protect it.

Thanks for the response Walt.

I just found the 'rebuild VSS' doc as well. I'll rebuild my old one and have a spare.

Let me know if you find a good adhesive to hold the magnet on the shaft.

Sorry for such a delayed response. I haven't been driving the Rover so it hasn't been a top priority. I rebuilt the VSS and boy was it a POS unit off of ebay! I used a large nylon fender washer trimmed down and drilled the center out to form the bushing for the magnet shaft on the inside of the sensor. The sensor I bought from ebay had the magnet attached to the shaft via a small clip and a washer as a spacer, so I replaced the washer with the nylon fender washer above. Loaded the entire unit with lithium grease and rtv'ed the sensor together. it now works, I get mph readout on my OBD 2 scan tool. Now my speedo doesn't work, odometer works. So i'll tear into that this week and see if a solder joint is broken.
