very loud exhaust noise from under hood
If you have a later model D1, with four O2 sensors, the ECU supervises for that condition and will throw codes. I just cranked up my D1, let it idle until warmed up, with IR thermometer read 600F at exhaust manifold, 400F at first O2 sensor, and 300F or below on the case of the cat, passenger side. Must be some insulation around the inside of the cat, because internally it is going to be over 1000 degrees. Like 1200 - 1600F.
Usually if running rich will make rotten egg smell, and difference between inlet and outlet side of cat will be higher on the outlet side by 500 degrees, maybe more (unburned fuel entering the cat).
