Default Warning Beep When Using Transfer Case Shifter

So we had a flat and had to change a few tires around. As recommended we pulled the e brake and locked it low before jacking it up. For some reason if the transfer case is set in anything but unlocked high, we get a constant warning tone. Everything works fine in all 4 settings but that beep will not go away unless its unlocked and in high. We have used it before and never had this issue but tonight it just refused to shut up. The only thing that has been modified on it is the ABS pump fuse is out, everything else is untouched. Rear tire was super flat but I cant see that triggering the beeping sound. Any ideas?

the first weekend I had my truck i took it to an OHV area and after hitting a bumpy bit it started the beeping. Not seeing any lights on for any warnings we continued on for a minute till it got uber annoying. Pulled off to the side, turned off the truck and re-started and the beep went away. Never thought anything of it until about a month later i was running up a rocky fire road with the diff locked in 4h and the beep returned. Coming up a switchback the truck just lost drive and i was like WTF? I guess i hadnt securely locked the t-case and it popped into neutral. Once i figured out what had happpend i put 2 and 2 together and realized thats what that bloody beeping was for..

Long story short, truck was driving fine, but obviously not fully locked as far as it could have been..

There is a warning beep for letting you know its locked, it only beeps for a moment when you start the truck. I don't know first hand cause mine doesn't, must be broke, but I remember reading it in the manual. Did you have the truck sitting with the ignition on but not cranked?

Mine used to come out of gear occasionally or it wasnt fully in gear and it would beep. I had to put it in neutral, shift it, put it in drive push it a little more until you hear it ship over...

It means your transfer case is in neutral or not fully engaged. Mines done it before and I slightly roll forward while pushing the tcase shifter and you can feel it fully engage and the been goes away

Those linkages for the diff lock and the transfer case tend to bind up if not used regularly. They are exposed to the elements from beneath and tend to get nasty, corrode, and the linkages are probably the most flimsy thing on the entire vehicle.

It's a carnage of small clevis pins and tiny little spring clips that have to move and eventually rotate a selector plate if engaging the Diff Lock or move forward and aft to change the high low setting for the transfer case.

If they do bind, and you force it damage can occur. To gain access you have to pull the console out and drill out some factory rivets to remove the rubber gaiter.

I have done that to mine and packed it really well with Lucas Red Tractor Grease and it shifts really smooth again. You may get away with spraying it really well with PB Blaster or similar products, but to really get to it you are looking at removing the center console.

The beeping is to let you know it is not fully engaged. Just to make certain that you are aware, you must have tranny in N to change from High to Low or vice versa. The diff lock should engage regardless of being in gear and speed as long as wheels are not spinning freely from loss of traction.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys I now feel dumb again on account of the Rover, lol. I don't have a manual for it so I was unsure what it was, just never heard it before so I figured I screwed something up. Played with it today and all was fine, must have just made it angry for a few minutes.

Never Fall In Love With A Rover. Sung to the tune of "You Picked a Fine time to Leave Me Loose Wheel" . Just don't cry in your beer.
