I need to replace the tensioner as well on my D1...

You could try either blowing it out with compressed air or possibly spraying some wd40, pb blaster or something around all that and see if it helps.

I recently replaced the tensioner on my truck. i had picked up the correct bearing but couldnt get the dam circlip out of the stock tensioner and ended up saying eff it and went and picked up a tensioner from autozone for 20 bucks. Not the same as the cast iron oe rover one, its a steel pulley with the bearing pressed in but got rid of the funky noises i was getting from my belt line.

I did the same thing 4? years ago.

Duralast/Belt Tensioner (231081) | 1997 Land Rover Discovery 8 Cylinders 2 4.0L MFI OHV | AutoZone.com

All you need to replace is the pulley, the bearing is bad, thats whats making the noise.
Remove the belt, unbolt the pulley, put new pulley on, put belt back.
15 min and you're done.

Yeah, I can find Pulleys for $20, but not Tensioners...I need to replace the tensioner.

Have you tried the dismantlers (Paul & Will)?
