What i hate most about my discovery
Sounds like everybody commenting on this thread really, really hates their Rover. Pretty sad to hear all this LR hate and toyota love. I certainly don't hate mine at all. For 6 years my 97 Disco has taken me a lot of really great places and many of them quite difficult. Has mine ever had some problems? Sure it has but I wouldn't have traded those 6 years for any other 4x4 vehicle and will continue to flog the Rover until it drops dead. Mine has been quite reliable overall and has been literally beat to hell all over the Four Corners region. I'm sorry your experiences have been so bad. My D1 has been the most reliable used vehicle I have ever bought/owned. Better than some of the new vehicles I bought and hated. Maybe my ownership experience is better than most but my Rover has greatly expected my expectations since I bit the bullet and finally got one 6 years ago. The only thing I've never been in love with is the lack of highway power in the mountainous West but I love the engine off road. It purrs off road.
No hate here, but I understand the frustration with the idle. Mine still surges when warm but I live with it cause most my to and from work trips it doesn't have time too get warmed up.
Nope I love my land to we and still won't drive anything else..
It really is a sickness..
A buddy of mine tried to
Ditch his 98 range rover. He bought a new dodge ram and drove into
Into a tree and totalled it within a week.. He now drives the range rover..
I think
It subconsciously made him reck
The ram

I'll quote Larry the Cable Guy Here: Now that is FUNNY, I don't give a DAMN who you are.
You guys are a real riot. UPChuck thinks he should get $4500 for his when he has had nothing but a srting of problems and probably will not them resolved either.
Jacuma buys them for a grand, drives them as long as possible and will seii you three of the SunShields to cover his tint job, and his runs better with three different tires on it than any other truch he has had yet.
Spencer, wasn't yours a fixture in the Walmart Parking lot for a year and a half or something like that?
Correction, that was NGArover, not spencer, his was a fly and buy if I remember right.
I am pretty happy with mine, it's just a farm truck, that is all they ever were. The RR Classic was a tank but then LR started trying to dress them up.
When you put looks over function, you blew it.
If you love the Brand you are just what their marketing people love.
I put function over looks and mine has been pretty good. I am putting new O2's in when they come in. Hopefully that will help mine.
But you should never LOVE a TRUCK. Maybe try one of the Ford PowerStroke F250's or something like that. I had a 96 Full Size Bronco XLT that was a hell of a daily driver.
But my best daily driver was my 1986 Mercedes Benz 420SEL. Or my 1986 Porsche 928 was also fun to drive and was absolutely a fine looking car if looks are that important to you. Hard to beat the visual appearance that the 928 has. I especially liked the way the headlights raised up out of the hood when you turned them on.
Those early full size Blazers were BAD TO THE BONE as were Surburbans.
Early Toyota Land Cruisers were awesome off road, but I could run faster back then than one of those would accelerate like. They were pitifully slow on the road.
You guys got me laughing my a$$ off.
Keep on whining. Maybe someone has some cheese they would be willing to share with you.
I might be a redneck............ but I am enjoying it.
Got a pig on the smoker, gotta go add some more wood. Have fun guys.
Jacuma, Did anyone send you any pics in bikinis and high heels yet?
I know it gets lonely out there in the swamp......

man I'd trade my Disco for a 4Runner or LandCruiser without even seeing the Toyota.
I don't regret buying my Disco, it's just that there's a reason only rich people drive them. They are too expensive to drive and repair. Mine just sits in my yard until I get $$$ to replace the master cylinder and lug nuts. Oh, and that's after I finish restoring my BSA, fix some little things on my DR, fix some things around the house, and maybe get new tires on my Chevy (which I hate, but it gets better mileage than the Rover).
Someday, maybe when I'm retired, I'll get her all fixed up. Or maybe it'll be worth more in 20 years. I couldn't give it away right now.
Until now, I'll keep checking this forum so I know what to fix next time something goes wrong

You need some lug nuts? Rovahfarm has them for 7 bucks each.. I prefer the solid ones like on the RR classic.
If you only need a few, I got a bucket full down in my garage, I could find you a few good ones in.

Speaking of lug nuts. i was sitting at a light in Garden City as this hispanic guy made a rigt turn coming towards me. He looses his rear driver wheel in slow motion and it rolls at about 20mpg straight for me and slams into the front of the Rover. Not a scratch thanks to the brush guard I was trying to sell, lol. He runs up saying hes sorry in Spanglish and I felt bad for him. I asked him what happened and he says "No nuts, No nuts". He used one damned lug nut to secure his wheel.
Danny Lee I responded to your "lonely comment" but unfortunately it wasn't fit for this forum. No I do just fine with the company department.
I really was just kidding about your seeing this thread and rampaging on us so don't get hissy on me.
My rover really is the smoothest truck I've ever driven even though it has 3 diff tires.
I like the RR classics but know nothing about them. I assumed the build quality was the same are you saying its not?

7x5x4=$140
way more than I feel like paying for some damn lug nuts at this time. Maybe in 10 years when the kids are all over 18 and I can tell them "No you can't have any money I have to buy some lug nuts."
