What Tires You Can Fit On Your Disco w/ What Modification(s)
#21
I also prefer to drive trails and not be recovered thru them... I prefer to be the guy with the built truck waiting on the other end or helping the less built trucks get thru the crazy hard trails. I also like a little competition every now and then.. Be it another built Rover or in my neck of the woods a Jeep. Always fun to show the hardcore Jeep guys what a real built Rover can do.
All this talk about wheeling has me itching to get out there. It has been 5+ years since I have been off-road...but most of the trails out here still have too much snow on them (and my 'real' tires aren't here yet).

Just because I wheeled with a safety net, doesn't mean I used it. I took pride in having the least built truck in the group and still making it through the trails under my own power. I am sure it helped that I was almost always the spotter, so I got to direct/watch people before driving it myself.

Interesting. I think I would get bored with the trail itself, but I guess the pylons add a bit of challenge (I am assuming the goal is to miss the pylons).

Yea it's pretty challenging. I like competition and you learn your vehicle and how to become a better driver. I will likely run the entire course cdl unlocked since I have the detroit and truetrac combo. Will be extra challenging in my big foot haha

I was running 32" tires with no lift and no sway bars...... Now I lift the D2 3" and now im running 35/12.5/R16 Pitbull rockers.... No gears needit yet, the 4.6 power the truck just fine and in 4 low is just fine too.... I do extensive off roading and so far i have never breake any half shaft or anything like that, Just one time the front drive shaft and I did replace the front and rear with a tomwood set. Running Arb lockers front and rear too.. I had the truck for over 5 years and never have any problems. This coming month im getting 4.37 gears and cromo axles front and rear.... I really dont know why people talk bad about land rover axles.... I seem toyotas 80 breaking the front ring and pinion all the time, and no just one truc all those toyotas had the tendenci to breake the front axle in some way..... We always end up towing those toyotas back home with our rovers.

Great thread and timing! I just got my Hancock 3057016 AT's and 30 mm spacers. I have a 2" lift and currently running 2457516s w/o the spacers and have just a tiny rub at max turn which I rarely use. I'm getting the new tires mounted this week expecting that I may need some (hopefully) minor trimming.

Great info in this thread! I've got my 2" lift coils and longer shocks ready to install, and will be picking up a set of '91 Range Rover wheels for the bigger tires I'm going to run. From reading thru this thread, and considering the frequency and type of any possible off-roading I may do, I've decided to go with 235/85-16s. Didn't realize there would be fender rubbing or steering stop issues with 245/75s or 265/75s, so I'm going with 235/85s.
Found a good deal at Pep Boys, on their Definity Dakota A/T2 tires. Right now it's "buy three get one free", as in instant credit, not a mail-in rebate. I've used these tires before, and they're a pretty good tire for the money, especially with getting one free, and I think they're actually made here in the States! Looks like a set of four is going to run me around $650, which includes all four tires, mounting, balancing, road hazard, and tax.

Now if the trans shop would only install the used trans I bought, I could get on with the other things I want to do with my D1 (lift, headliner, speakers, etc)!
