Default 02 4.0 into an 03. Would you?

I've been scouring around looking at various discos.

One great option is to grab a wrecked but otherwise nice 02 and put its motor into my broken 03.

I like the idea of having all the spares and my 03 is nice. I can get the wreck for under 1500, I figure I would put hg set in the 4.0 and install it.

Any words to the wise?

I'm looking at some d1's and may ditch the 03

Have you thought about an LS1 swap?

Of course, but seems it seems that swaps on these rigs are not very common or sorted out. Not looking for an engineering project at the moment. Just looking at cost effective solution to getting the 03 on the road.

If you have info regarding the swap I would be interested.

I did the swap and happy I did it.....you can find 4.0's cheap and they bolt in, reprogram your computer and go....

What is involved in reprogramming the ecu?

I am looking at getting the 4.0 from a wrecked donor vehicle so I will have all the controls as well, I could just swap the ecu?

How bad is the 4.6 tune with the 4.0 motor?

Thanks

Mike

Mike,

I had mine installed at a professional shop, so once the motor was installed (its all plug and play) the technician plugged in some bad @ss overgrown code scanner and reprogrammed the ECU so I have no idea what it entails but it worked perfectly.
