Default 03 D2 4.0 Swap

I'm new to the rover world and would like to enlighten everyone on the swap i just completed on my 2003 Disco se7. Contrary to what i had read on many forums this was a direct swap. Reprogramming the ECU to the 4.0 maps was not necessary. The replacement engine was a 4.0 out of a 2002 disco. I replaced the head gaskets, throuttle body heater plate and various other gaskets that came in the Atlantic British kit prior to installing the engine. I had no check engine light after the install and passed emissions. Three amigos are on which is not a surprise. Currently my temps are around 194 going to the road, and 200-205 in traffic with the ac on. Any tips on keeping this engine healthy would be appreciated. It seems to run great now. Also i bought the truck as a project. Picked it up for $1300 bucks with new tires and tie rod ends just done before it blew up with 98k.

Thanks for the info. Nice looking truck and a great deal! Where did you get your replacement engine, mileage and how much $, if you don't mind me asking?

I bought the engine from a salvage yard. It came with a 60 day warrenty so i took the chance as i was going through it anyway. Worst case i would have been refunded. But it checked out and runs great. Engine has 90k on it and i paid $1500 for it.

I did the same swap into my wife's 04'. Not a glitch, works perfect.

That's right...good job! 90K is not bad at all and price was fair enough...much better than some salvage yards.

My truck had 70K when I bought it and no problems at all till after around 145K, so you should be good for awhile.

Clock all the miles you can before your warranty runs out so if there are any big problems maybe they'll show up while your still covered. You're probably good though!

That is a clean sharp looking truck. No dents dings or cracked bumpers plus $1,000 in tires. You did good!

Thanks for the compliments. It was a lot of work but i think it was worth it. It really is a unique vehicle.
