SO here's the deal...

I bought an 03 disco with 66K on it ... Used it to pull a 6X12 cargo trailer weighing about 4,000lbs when moving from Tennessee to California. I got as far as Nebraska before the engine overheated and blew. I was told the top and bottom of the engine were toast. I somehow managed to get my insurance company to replace the engine. They put in a used engine with 32K and gave me an UNLIMITED miles non-transferable warranty on the replacement engine. They told me I can drive 300,000 miles or however many and if the engine goes they will replace it for me as long as i keep my oil change records and don't abuse the engine.

My question mow that i have a disco with an UNLIMITED MILES WARRANTY on the engine ... how long will my transmission last? Do I have to worry about it going at 100K or should it last longer. If the transmission is liable to go out soon i will most likely just sell the car and grab something more reliable.

The transmissions are the best part of the Land Rover. I have almost 185,000 on mine and it still shifts like new. If you have not had the filter changed yet I would have a good indepent Land Rover repair shop flush the transmission and install a new filter. Regular maintaince and it will last a long time. Also Change your Driveshaft u-joints to greasable style before you have a u-joint failure and destroy the transmission and more.

you are golden. just do maintenance and make sure you have the drive shaft rebuilt or replaced or you will have a new engine without a transmission or transfer case.
