I've owned 2 off the showroom D2's and I was the original owner & I got well past the 150k mark on both of them without any head gaskets needing to be replaced and they were also both 03's.
I currently own an 02 Kalahari with the original engine/transmission/transfer case and it's got 228k on it and runs perfectly with zero issues.
These days if I'm looking at a used LR I steer clear of the low mileage ones and actually like 150k & up ones. Those are the ones driven & and maintained vs it died & has been parked in a shed for years & just recently brought out to be repaired for as little as possible & sold to someone that is clueless to it's prior life.
It's all about maintenance! Any automobile will break down. My company van isn't serviced by me (fleet vehicle) and NO WAY will it make 20 years and still be on the road. It's a 2014 and it already overheats, ticks, and shifts like crap.
LR's are awesome if treated right & to say they'll always break down is BS. I've spent more time driving my LR's and enjoying them vs my Jeep's which all required serious TLC & that was with around 18k to 54k on them! All my LR's now are in the 100k plus club and I barely touch em except for scheduled maintenace and upgrades here & there.

I will consider that Dave, need to do some research on locals around here for sure.
The owner says it runs great, that he just uses his battery charger to turn it on whenever he likes. He still uses it, it seems, just not often due to new vehicle he got. I plan on test driving it tomorrow or Thursday so I will ask him that then and check it out for myself. He says there is no check engine light on, only the Brake light as it needs new ones. And yeah, I agree.. but surpassing 200,000 kinda makes me wonder. I know someone on here said theirs gave out at 260,000 (highest I've seen one go for).

That is awesome they're over 100K and I totally agree that the higher the mileage at some point, that are still being maintained and serviced, are the ones likely to have higher chance of reliability versus those who have lower mileage, but have also just been sitting.
I know every car will have it's problems no matter what, and you're right it's all about maintenance and the point is if you love the vehicle you have or want and are willing to put in the work and money when necessary, it should return the favor (at least in most cases).
