As the second owner, you are dead in the water, Rover won't help.
There are many good places to get a new/used short block or long block with a guarantee,

Shout if you need help.

I suspect Ford was pushing off any LR claims until they sold LR. I’ll have to see if the new guys will step up and do what’s right. BTW, I have submitted all my service records to LR including the majors all performed through the dealer service network.

I was at my dealer this weekend looking for a new spare tire cover, the salesman told me that LR will not evenprint a owners manual for anything other than the current model year. That is how straped for cash LR is. Ford is bankrupt, Tata Motors just bought LR from Ford and everything is still up in the air. Best of luck to you.

If you have had the truck regularly serviced at the dealer, they should work with you. I know poeple have gotten help before. Someone will tell you who you should contact.

I own a well maintained ’03 Disco, the oil pump has failed 4,000 miles out of warranty. LR North America is not willing to provide any assistance other than recommending I spend $12K on a new engine. LR published the cause of this failure as being the result of the oil pump locating dowel pins being machined out of location in the block, LR document number = TA03 1201.
Has anyone else had this failure out of warranty and been successful getting LR to assist in the cost of repairs?
Please provide any recommendations you have in getting cooperation from LR to resolve a known manufacturing defect. Passing the financial burden on to us consumers is just wrong.

Yes it is wrong, but Ford is bankrupt (they owned LR during this time) and have no money to make it right, they sold LR so they dont care. The new owners just took over in the last 30 days. Nobody knows anything yet. About all you can do is speak to a attorney. Good luck.

I have a legal contact that is initiating a class action lawsuit regarding this advisory and Land Rover’s lack of attention to address a known manufacturing defect.More info. sucksdisco@yahoo.com

If my 04 has 66,000 miles on it what are the chances of the oil pump failure happening on my engine? Most of the engines seem to be going out at around 40k to 50k miles.

The issue was with the 03 model Discos. I don't think you have to worry with an 04.

I happened because when they put the bigger engine (4.6)in the DII they had to re-engineer the front engine cover, that is where the oil pump is. It was to long. It was machined wrong. This is with the first run '03's, maybe the first 6 months worth of production. It is only '03's, that is the first year with the 4.6 litre engine.
