Default 04 cdl install into 2001

So late last year i got myself the 04 cdl shift cable assembly out of a pic a part yard.
Installing into a 2001, verified the diff lock actuator is there.

Finally im able to get the install done and i have forgotten the details of having the diff lock light etc being functional.
i have a newer slabs unit to plug in also. Although not the the holy grail part #

I think the 04 the sensor for the dif lock light was in the shift assembly? I see the wire on the assembly that this would be but i forget exactly.
Can i just ignore this wire and my diflock light will work? I believe the sensor is on the transfer case itself in a 2001?

IM probably way off, if anyone has that particular bit of info about the cdl electrical wiring of a 04 cdl cable going into a 01 it would be awesome.
for somereason i just cant seem to find where i read about it before.
Also some lockout pin in there im told i shoud remove. Seem to remember its so i dont get stuck in low range if it fails?

Many thanks

Mmm. Popcorn.

Been reading for a bit, or all night. Gonna disable the lockout in the shift lever/ cable assembly and leave what exists as is and pray to never get stuck in 4 low.

Was out screwing with it and got myself a seemingly unrelated trouble code as a reward. Random stumbles only when the headlights are on..
14-02 Pwm signal failure from engine ECU.
Doesn't throw MIL light

Guess it didnt like the drilling on the rivets.. Didnt nick any wires. Just angered it apparently
Knew it had been damn near trouble free too long..

The wire coming from the 2004 shifter is the lockout solenoid, not the sensor.
To get the light working on my 2003, I had to run new wires between the sensor switch on the transfer case and (a) the chassis, and (b) one of the wires in connector C0668 (I think it was pin 7 or 8). When you disconnect that from its other half you'll notice that the wiring on the transmission side has one less pin than on the truck side, Connect a wire between that pin and the sensor switch.

read my thread. may have some info for you:. I put an 04 T case into 01. some of the 01 harness connectors and switches were changed to make it work. One of the duplicated switches was removed and hole plugged (the rear one of the two closely seated switches)

I removed the solenoid from the 04 lever. My Diff light worked fine when engaged. I still haven't upgraded my SLABS ECU, so I have to disengage the CDL before shutting off the engine or I get the 3 amigo's when starting the engine. I keep looking for a 03-04 SLABS ECU, but everyone I find the seller doesn't know if it came from a donor vehichle that had SLS rear suspension or coil springs so I don't have to have mine reprogrammed.
