04 Chirp sound See Video

My Rover and my GMC truck made that exact same sound when the bearings started to go bad in the idler pulleys and/or the tensioner. You can remove the belt and spin the pulleys by hand. Listen for any "gritty" sounds and feel for play in all of them. If you feel any play or a bearing sounds grumbly, you've found your problem.

I've got a little squeak like that when I first start cold in the morning. I haven't found it because it goes quiet after it warms a little bit. It can sit all day and won't do it on restart. It only happens first thing in the morning. Incidentally, I've changed out all my idlers within the last two or three months.

I had the same noise on my 04 Disco. Don't be surprised if it comes back. It only did it first thing in the am and went away after driving a few miles. If it comes back find a Continental version of the former Goodyear Gatorback belt. Goodyear sold Gatorback to Continental a while back. I think they are called Continental Elite. I was a Porsche dealer tech and had a 911 turbo that had a belt chirp when cold and after contacting Porsche I was told to put one of these belts on and the noise was gone. It was the only time I was ever told to put an aftermarket part on a new car and I installed them from that point on. They are a little difficult to find but was able to get mine off Amazon.
