04 D II died at a stop light will not start
Correction - advance auto parts in Friendswood, TX - I just called the store to ask about borrowing / renting their code reader - the manager is brininging it to me! never had that kind of service from a parts store...
they just left and the codes set are P1412 and P 1415, which I beleive are SAP related - and a P 0463 - he told me that one is fuel level sensor A circuit high output...
where is the in-line fuel filter on this vehicle???

On the main page of the Discovery page there is a "write up" section, read it, all of it.
My wifes Volvo did the same thing, it idled rough, could not rev the engine, put it in gear and it died.
Changed the fuel filter, no change.
Replaced the fuel pump with a used one and she has been running great for over a year now.

FYI - another fuel pump test was offered by a friend... get it started with starter fluid - as it starts to die spray more fluid in - if rpm's come up and it continues to run then it is a weak fuel pump. makes sense to me - what you folks?
If it runs on starting fluid but not on its own then it is not getting fuel, either the fuel pump is bad or the fuel pump relay or a clogged fuel filter, but you dont have a fuel filter.
the mystery continues...
left the air intake connected, pull it from the filter housing. Sprayed just a bit of starter fluid in the intake - fired, but faultered - more starter fluid - started holding idle on it's own...
let it idle, gas it fuel - sputtered, then rev'ed, let off, died. had to spray more starter fluid to get started - ran good - drove up and down the driveway - afraid to road test.
THEN - reconnected to the air filter housing and it died. restarted using starter fluid - then it held idle and would rev with the full air intake assembled - still "sputtered" at first when putting fuel to it, but would catch and hold 2000+ rpm - let off and it would hold idle.
I checked at the uncovered fuel pump - definitely running.
Can the vacuum put enough pull on the fuel to keep it running, but when the engine is shut off there is no help from the vacuum to give it enough flow to start?

Yeah Spike - I disconnected at the outlet of the air filter housing - hit it with a couple of sprays of starter fluid and, after the series described above, she would idle, rev, had power to move up the driveway, etc... still will not start on it's own - has to get a shot of ether.
Is there a "test" for the MAF sensor?
Thanks... again
