04 D II died at a stop light will not start
On the way home from work and my 04 disco just quit on me... help!
has been intermitantly hard to start and feels like it has a slight "miss" at idle.
sprayed starter fluid in intake and ran until that burned away - a couple of seconds.
Checked fuses and relays - they are good (if I checked the right ones)
where is the fuel pump on the 2004 disco and how can I test / remove it?
best place to buy a new fuel pump?
many thanks for your help!

Happened to me a few years back on my 1995 4.0 range rover. Same symtoms. I an pretty sure disco II fule pump is alot cheaper than what i paid back then. I think was about $300.00 for pump and replacing labor. Was not the dealer who did it. Not rocket science either. On ebay from $50- $300.00 used to new
Good luck, Chris

Thanks Chris for the feed back. This, budget wise, needs to be a do-it-myself project.
I looked in the back of the disco a while ago and I may have trouble taking out the carpert... lol. (if that is how you get to the fuel pump???

looked at rave and its a one page repair. Looks as if you need a stupid LR tool to remove a locking ring. Another idiot design to suck money out of customers. Anyway, access is from the rear cargo area. You could due yourself. Download rave and its on page 411. looks like a couple hour job. Very strait forward.

You only need to lift carpet to get access. Its on the right side it says.
thanks to all. I will be on the job at daylight.
Now, where do I get that $39.95 new fuel pump?... lol
really, is there a good source for fairley quick delivery?
is there a link that I can download a RAVE that covers the 2004 disco?

Replacing the DII fuel pump is exactly the same as replacing the DI fuel pump.
You can buy your fuel pump at a autoparts store.
If you want used then look at.
www.autosportsunlimited.com
www.roverlandparts.com
www.ebay.com
As for the retainer ring, a big flat head screw driver and a hammer is all you need.

Wow, why another list of guys who bother to throw parts at stuff instead of diagnosing.
Here's a bet check to make sure its got power and ground. check to make sure it runs. Jump the relays and then maybe just maybe it might actually be a crankshaft position sensor. I mean its so much easier to waste money and throw parts at stuff without diagnosing. But hey why ask a technician for advice or try to learn to diagnosing when throwing parts at stuff works so much better.

Spike555, thanks. my local Orielly told me that they do not list a part numer for the fuel pump. I will do more shopping today.
Rovin4life - My diagnosis consisted of "listening" for the fuel pump to kick on. I thought that that was about all I could do. I will try putting direct current to it and see if we get anything. - another question... what wire do I jump to and where is it?
Thanks again all...

we never said it was, only it could be . he said he sprayed starter fluid and it ran so he is right as it could be fuel issue... i would think if it was acrankshaft sensor the spraying of starter fluid would not work either...
