04 Disco CDL, how to engage?
Ok, I finally bought a Disco, 2004 SE in dark green with tan leather interior. Nice truck, but the owners manual is missing.
Just a quick question, what is the proceedure to engage the CDL and low range? Do you have to be at a dead stop? Do you put it in neutral first or can you leave it in gear? Etc...
Also, how about the HDC. How does that work?
All the used trucks I looked at were all missing the owner's manual.

Get one on e-bay
Back and to the right is unlocked and high. This is every day driving.
When shifting to low and back to high, you have to be stopped and in neutral.
When engaging the difflock (to the left), you can be rolling, but under 5MPH. I would suggest only shifting while stopped to make sure you don't chip a gear.
Only lock the case if you are offroad or going through snow. Dry pavement will grind things up.
I don't have HDC....

Shift Pattern:
L:4x4 L:AWD
N
H:4x4 H:AWD
HDM: from a dead stop, trans in neutral, shift into Low 4x4. Press the HDM button. Shift Trans to desired gear (D,1,2,or 3). Also select manual mode on the trans selctor to keep the trans from shifting gears.
The Land Rover is not shift-on-the-fly. So only shift in a dead stop (you may have to rock it back and forth to get gears to line up correctly)

Aren't there instructions right in front of the t-case shifter ???
I have them there.
So...How much did you end up paying?? and how manyKMs?? No matter how much more you paid, It was a smart move to step away from that G4 that you had talked about.
Congrats,
Darover

The sticker is there by the lever, so I know where to push the stick for which mode. I just want to know if the truck has to be stopped, rolling slowly, in neutral or drive or what, to move the stick. On all the trucks I tried, the sticks were VERY stiff. I was always doing it in neutral, stopped. Sometimes I had to put it in gear and let off the brake to make it go into gear or it would just be stuck in neutral. There was never any grinding of any sort so I don't think I hurt anything.
Are they always stiff, or is that just cause they were never used?
How do you put the trans in manual mode? I know there's a sport button on the base of the shifter, thought that was only for a sporty shifting profile?
On the HDC, so it has to be in 4x4 Low to engage the HDC? I figured. But, does the truck have to be stopped in neutral? Like, what if I'm driving along in 4wd low, and encounter a hill, can I just push the button? Or do I have to stop, put it in neutral...
Darover, 68km, and I paid $19k all-in plus tax. Warranty through March, brand new tires, and fairly clean. It's only missing the floor mats and owners manual. Coolant looks like it must have been recently changed. Brake fluid needs to be done and probably the P/S fluid too. Air filter was clean. Looks like it was reasonably cared for.
I'm pretty happy, I think it's a good price, and one of my favorite colours. Well... I might have liked white, blue or dark grey too. I'm not an "orange" kind of guy. But there's a 2003 Trek edition, loaded with all the kit for sale in VA that I passed up and I'll probably always wonder about that one cause it's a good deal.
First thing I need to do to this thing is find some 16"s for it. It's got the 18's with brand new Michellin Synchrone tires on it. I'd love a set of 16's from the 03-04 models with BFG T/A's. Hoping I might be able to find somebody with 16's to trade with. Not sure where to look for a local trade in Canada.

Cool, very happy for you.Excellent price for the mileage. In ottawa, you would have paid at least 23-24K plus taxesfor it.
It states in front of my shifter, that while on 4 high, you have to slow down to no faster than 8 km/h, while rolling you put it in N, shift to 4 LOW,put back in D and continue driving. To go back to 4 high, you do the opposite.
It can be done while completely stopped and the Rave CD says that the description above is for experts.

I think most places that is the going price. Or rather, most Land Rover dealers.
Seems in the GTA there are a few used car dealers picking them up and flipping them for little profit so the going price is lower. I notice GTA LR dealers don't seem to bother stocking them because of it.

Well, if you look in the auto trader, you'll see that the Ottawa Dealer has a few for sale, and the asking price is still over $26000 for all of them.
That's weird !!! If you want, pm me the info, with your phone number, and I'll put it on there for you tomorrow.
Not too long ago, I might have been interested, until I saw the difference between a lifted Disco with 18s, and one with 16s, both with 32 inch tires, and the one with 16s looked much better. Not counting rides better etc,....
Anyways....Up to you.
