Default 04 disco II stalls when put in reverse

i am new to the dico 2 and am wondering what the problem could be. When I start up the disco and throw it in reverse it will stall still in gear and the oil and battery light come on. It has happened twice when I start in reverse and once starting in drive. Each time I've put it in parked turned the disco off, taken the key out and retry, that has worked so far. once it gets going and driving the oil and battery light are not on and it it will drive fine. Once I got home and checked the oil it was in the middle. is this a problem that i need to stop driving on or can i continue to drive and any help would be appreciated.

Oil and battery lights will always come on when the car stalls. Those lights are driven by low oil pressure and low alternator voltage, both of which drop to zero when the engine stalls. They are not related to the issue at hand.

I had this issue too but only in reverse, I would put it in reverse and 8 out of 10 times the truck would shut off and then I'd have to restart it. Turns out my transmission cooler had been leaking slowly for months but never leaving a puddle on the floor. Anyway I replaced that and the issue went away. So based on my experience you could be low on trans fluid or have a leak somewhere.

I agree with AjjayS about the fluid level. In fact I was certain I had written a second paragraph that said check the transmission levels. I think I must have accidentally deleted it with the part I wrote about MAF, but then deleted due to the very low probability it is a MAF issue (it's just an easy test so it is kinda a standard for me).

Make sure to clean the throttle plate (front and back) and all the bypass air passages there, and the idle air control valve (IACV). The IACV is supposed to control engine RPM to prevent stalling.
