I'm new to Land Rovers, but I've been around Mercedes for years now. There's two of these old diesel engines in my family. You won't be disappointed, it's a great engine!

I used to run a 700R4 in my old suburban. After many thousands of dollars on many upgrades, I still couldn't make it survive. It liked to give out on me at the worst times. That being said, I was running a 300hp Chevy 350 in front of it. So you'll probably have more luck than me.

Will you need a custom "Y" pipe made?
Can you just go into an exhaust shop and say "make the "Y" pipe?

So if you put in your own transfer case, then you'll need two more custom drive shafts??

Jfall, just curious why do you think he would need a "Y" pipe on a inline motor?

Duh.
You are correct.
That is what I get for staying up late and posting.
I suppose he will need a pipe to go from the right side to the left where the exhaust currently is.

At any rate - a custom pipe will be needed - which may go from a larger diameter size to a smaller diameter.

And, - the diesel may want its own muffler and resonator which have different flow characteristics - to make the engine "feel" like it is still
on a Mercedes chassis to breathe OK.

Gonna be interesting.

I've read everyone's negative opinion and i don't care. This is my rover, if you don't like it, then please do not read my post. And thanks to everyone who is supporting this. B igSky,

I am doing the same thing. Have a 1983 300CD (turbo) and 2000 LR Discovery II.... the mercedes runs great and the LR has a cracked engine. I am going to follow your progress and hope to duplicate it.

I have viewed Jarek's posts and youtube video, but I am stuck at trying to find an adapter plate for the transmission. You are not using the standard Disco transmission? Will you let me know how you settled on another transmission and what you plan to do at the back (to the transfer case)?

Thanks, Charlie V

I considered a 700R4... I just decided I would get a NEW LR 5 speed manual (there is nothing wrong with my auto, but I want to eliminate electronics problems and have more control since this the OM617, unless it is tuned WAY up, is going to need more gears at different times). Any thoughts on this?
