How much will you have in it when you are done? I am currently looking for a replacement 4.6 for my disco and have been getting numbers for from 2500 to 3000.

I'll probably be into the motor tranny and adapter plates $2300. that would be less if you just bought the motor. These mercedes are a bit more expensive up where i live, i do have a complete parts car though. I plan on buying another 300d for a driver and something to play with and learn the OM617.

I am pretty good with wiring, i'm going to completely remove the rover ECU harness. I'll either make my own, use the mercedes harness, or buy a generic painless harness.

Very ambitions.
700R4 transmission.
So you have an adapter for it to the Mercedes engine?
The 700R4 is well understood.
And was used in trucks and Corvettes too.
I just hope your 700R4 is solid.
Lots of builders can strengthen them.
You may want to get a 700R4 from a Diesel application - if this existed.

Yep.
Did exist.

Looking on craigslist, it seems that pretty much all 6.2 or 6.5 GM diesels came with the 700r4 of 4l60e

how to mate the output shaft of the 700R4 to the Transfer case??
Will you get a custom drive shaft made?

That adapter looks sweet.

how to do the engine mounts??

I drove a 1986 Mercedes around with a 6 cylinder Turbo diesel.
Easily went 90 miles an hour.

The engine had injection pump issues as it would surge all around at high speeds and loads.

Well, you will not have slipped liners any longer.
And you may get 23 MPG.

Very exciting.

my other worry is..
The 700R4 probably has a torque lock feature
which the GM ECU will invoke.

Google


This will give you huge MPG gains when the torque lock is engaged.
I guess you could put in a switch to enable it.

The Rover ECU should have the same feature - or the transmission computer does.

I think the Rover transmission has a speed sensor??

I wouldn't worry too much about this. I was going to put a 700r4 into my old chevy, and there were a few companies that made stand-alone lock up kits. Seems I remember they were only about $1-200.

As of right now i am going to use a Remote Mount transfercase.
Engine mounts i am going to use factory mercedes.

I will be using a manual torque converter lock up.
unsure of the speedo, i will probably get an adapter
