04 no diff lock?
Anyone ever seen this in an 04 it looks like the plate makes it impossible to shift to the left to lock the diff. The square is to small. Even though I have the little diagram and diff lock on the lever. Did some 04s not come with diff lock?
Im not sure about the hole there but I think that S models came standard without the CDL even in 04 but I ould be mistaken. Its also possible that the your truck was specially fitted for a customer who may have requested not to include the CDL. Just curious though, have you tried shifting the CDL? Could the linkage just be froze? If I let my CDL sit for to long without ever engaging then it freezes up and requiors lub or manual engaging to get the linkage working smoothly again.
Like I said above, I was not certain. Thought I heard someone on here mention something about S models not having CDL. That said can anyone else shed more light on the original posters question? I never examined the plate under the CDL shifter on my 04 but I have experienced a stuck CDL linkage. I could engage the hi/low but the shifter absolutely would not shift over to the left in neither high or low. I tried lubricating the linkage and the nipple on top of the transfer case and still no luck. The only thing that got my CDL working again was me getting under the truck with a wrench and manually turning the nipple on top of the transfer case, to engage/dis-engage the CDL. Doing that several times and added more lubricant freed up the linkage and now my CDL shifts as it should and engages the lock in both hi and low.
The 04's have a cable actuated CDL and hi lo shifter mechanism. They normally don't seize like the D1 linkages(in my experience).
The only way to really tell (especially if you don't know what to feel for when under the truck) is to remove the middle console and drill out the rivets of the shifter plate to look at the top of the t case for the nipple.

I couldn't see the photos on my phone, but there you go! Mystery solved.
