Default 04 water pump problem

I have an 04 Discovery that I am going to change the water pump on. I spoke with a parts guy yesterday that seemed knowledgable on the job. He indicated that a tool is needed to hold the fan clutch in place while removing the fan. Is there anyone out there that can identify this tool, as well as give me a walk through on the job?

Thanks

You need a 36 mm wrench but the spanner tool is very rare and expensive most people do not use the spanner they improvise, search around.

try this if you really want the spanner wrench (it does make the job easier and quicker, but yes, we do improvise):

Good luck on this one, I just did it myself. It will be a breeze once the fan is off. I rented the fan removal tool from Auto Zone for free once they refund the deposit upon returning it. I suggest that you place the new water pump on a towel next to you and place the screws that you remove next to each hole since some are different sizes. Then when it is time to put the new one on, just put the old one in its place. Oh yeah, removing the old gasket is harder then the fan if you aren't prepared like me. I just had a flat head screw driver. Try the drill and steel brush tip, but be mindful of keeping the surface clean. Good Luck! It feels good to save all that money doesn't it.

Use a razor blade to scrape the old gasket and some fine sandpaper but be careful as the razor will slice up the aluminum easily.

X2 on that, start with a plastic one. Be careful not to scrape metal off. Dont use a drill...

I started with a plastic gasket scraper but man those gaskets get rock hard. I dulled 5 razor blades to scrape my front cover and water pump.
