I ask because i am curious if there's enough play in the gear linkage or would it need to be adjusted

the shifter for automatic transmission is what i am talking about, there's no videos or pics of what all needs to be done

You won't have any shifter linkage issues at 1 inch. I drop the transmission more than 1 inch when removing the top bellhousing bolts.

From the threads I've read your linkage is good untill about 3 inches of body lift.

I don't see why more people don't utilize the body lift option for more tire clearance rather than cutting up wheel wells, especially if you already have metal bumpers, I would imagine it being pretty easy to raise them

The metal bumpers mount to the frame, not the body when you install a body lift you are now adding a gap between the body lines and the bumper. Vehicles such as jeeps or yotas have a large supply of aftermarket bumpers with made for body lift options, I've not seen this option on Rover bumpers, also haven't looked.

For smaller body lifts black lawn edging can be used to fill the gaps or you can fab brackets to raise the bumpers.
