Default 150,000 mile service suggestions

Hey,

so I'm coming up with a punch list for my D2. It runs great, but is starting to throw a P304 code. The plugs/wires/coil packs and crank sensor were replaced at about 72,000 miles. Also, new front drive shaft installed, thermostat mod, brakes, tranny fluid and rear dif serviced at 105,000. New radiator at 125,000
I use rotella and seafoam down the oil filler at oil changes.

I do have 3 amigos, so If anyone in CT has a scanner for that that would be great to rent

I'm thinking:

1. platinum plugs, magnecor? or STI? 8mm wires
2. coil packs
3. Crank position sensor
4. fuel purge valve?

what else do you suggest to keep it in great shape? when do alternators and starters start to fail?

also, the heat works intermittently, but usually blows hot air.

thanks!

scott

P304 is a misfire code. Before changing plugs and wires, do you have a spark tester? You can touch it to the wires and see if they are pulsing.

You don't mention the head gaskets being done. I had multiple misfires and it was a blown head gasket causing oil to be sucked into the chamber creating a misfire.

Of course I had to change the wires and plugs to make sure it wasn't that.

Get someone to rev the motor up to 3500 RPM for 10 seconds while you watch the tailpipe, if you see black smoke, it might be the HG. You could also check compression on the #4 if you have the tester.

Besides that you are on the right track with wires, plugs, and coils.

Good luck.

Kingsborne Wire Werks Inc - Spark plug wires, Automotive, RV, Motorcycle, Marine, Racing, Industry

with the kingsborne wires be sure to order the 8mm grommets that hold the wires

I am almost at 160K and have replaced all the big things at 100k miles (entire cooling system, head gaskets, oil pump gears, timing chain, etc..) so I am good on those until 200k rolls around.

The big things I am finding myself replacing now are all the worn out bushings (motor mounts, tie rod ends, radius arm bushing, watts linkage, etc..). It has really made a difference in the ride quality of the Disco. I would also change your front and rear diff and T-case gear oil, fan belt, and check each wheel hub/bearing for play.

My alternator just went at 135,000. So you could replace that with a 150 amp or better.

It tested fine, but it was not charging the battery for some reason. I don't drive it that much so I thought it was just inactivity, but since installing the new one I have not had an issue at all.

I am going to do my crank sensor soon as well.

thanks for the replies. gearing up for another 10,000 mile cross country road trip in august/sept/oct... trying to iron out some stuff

yep, misfire... I replaced the plugs/wires/coils at about 75,000 miles. at about 108,000 miles i had to replace the #6 wire on a road trip as it failed, so I'm thinking that they all could be replaced again, as maybe the shop didn't use great wires, and the have close to 70,000 miles on them

never replaced the head gasket. probably wait on that. I don't think I have any problems with it. Some good mechanics have told me to wait until it fails to replace it. I have an ultragauge and constantly monitor the temp, to a point that i have had a few dreams about overheating and cooking my motor haha.

rear diff done at 105k and pretty sure the T-case and front diff done same time.

thanks!
