I think I found what caused the check engine light to come on, the car just went to 112,500 miles. I think that is one of the time that the book recommends taking it to a landrover dealer to be serviced.
The only way to tell what is wrong is by having the codes read.
My wifes Volvo has a oil chnage light, it comes on every 5,000 miles and says "service" but that is still seperate from the "check engine" light.
You can buy a OBDII code scanner at Harbor Freight for under $30.
Is your birthday coming up? Or how about graduation, are you a senior this year?
Put a ScanGauge on your wish list.

I hope to get one for fathers day.
I should put one on my list. He didnt say, he just said he was tired of doing this for people and then having them drive away without buying any of his parts. Then said he was going to start charging. When he read it though, it was something with fuel system maybe, but he said that code is most often seen when relating to the gas cap.
You definitely need to get a code reader if you are going to do your own maintenance. It gets old fast having to go have someone else read and clear the codes every time you need to work on the truck. A $30 dollar code reader will work just as well as an expensive one you just don't get all the bells and whistles.
I would go back to the Carquest and have the guy read the codes again just to annoy him. But seriously, if we knew the exact code we could help you out more. I would never trust the word of the guy working behind the parts counter. And I used to work at Carquest.

Yeah, I get my new tires and brakes tomorrow. The parts for the driveshaft, and serpentine belt/pulley should come in this week. Then I just need to set up an appointment for that. Underneith the car has a slow drip, only when running, of a amber-orangish colored fluid. What might it be? Is it serious, or what do I need, and where do I poor it back in?
