Default 2000 LR Discovery Mechanic findings

Hi Everyone,

I am about to purchase a LR00 from my cousin. I just foundthis out from the initial check my mechanic did:

Truck needs:
-Front brake padsand rotors-My cousin already knows about that and said he can fix that
-Altenator

He scanned the engine:
PO134-02 Sensor Circuit No activity Bank 1 Sensor 1-He this is why the "Service Engine Soon" light is on
Is this imperative that it gets fixed? He said my cousin should be able to get this from the dealer.

He checked the front drive shaft and said that was ok.
He hasn't check the 3-U joint grease fitting
He said for the most part everything seems to be ok with the truck. He's still checking and should be done later this morning. I'm going to meet him then.

He said he does hear a rattling sound and he wants to further check that out. He thinks it could be the plywheel or flywheel. He has an accent and I couldn't understand what he was saying. Does anyone one know what else that could be?

Are there any other things that he should check for?

Thanks!

How many miles on the truck? How mechanical are you?
Why an alternator?
You will need all 4 02 sensors, Atlantic British has them for about $70 a piece, stay away from the dealer.
The drive shaft must be rebuilt if it hasn't been, or when it fails you will loose your tranny$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
If the flywheel/flex plate is broken, this is big bucks, so where over $1000
How much is he wanting to sell you this truck for??

How many miles on the truck? 89K
How mechanical are you? No mechanical experience!
Why an alternator? I don't know. He just said the truck needs an alternator

I will let my cousing know about this.

The drive shaft must be rebuilt if it hasn't been, or when it fails you will loose your tranny$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I will ask the mechanic to look at it

If the flywheel/flex plate is broken, this is big bucks, so where over $1000 -The mechanic is looking into this

How much is he wanting to sell you this truck for?? $6500. He had $7200 left in payments, but is will to give it to me for $6500. I was taking over the payments at $260/month

Is this is good buy?

$6500 could be decent if the truck is in overall good shape,HAS BEEN SERVICED REGULARLY, and the exisiting problems are fixed. Is your cousin the original owner? Just remember if you buy it and have just a couple problems that $6500 investment could quickly become $10000. Since you are not mechanically inclined I DO NOT RECOMMEND you buy the truck unless you have two or three thousand laying around for maintenance and/or problems. The truck probably needs the 90K service and that willcost you significantmoney right there. Theseare great, fun trucks but don't kidyourself, you will have problems and they will cost you money. If you can accept that...Welcome to the club!

Do yourself a favor, you have little or no 4 wheel experience and no mechanical knowledge, that truck needs to be 100% right, no problems at all if you buy it and don't spend a penny over $6500 for it.
One of the worst things anyone can do is buy a vehicle from a family member.

He's the second owner at 62K miles. The first owner had it serviced regularly at the Lander Rover dealership. My cousin has He also had it serviced at the Land Rover dealership. He said he just had major service six months ago that cost him $800 at 86K. The truck has been in his drive way since then. He got a bigger truck. If he knows the issues with the truck, I'm sure he will fix it. I just want to make sure I'm getting a good deal and reliable car. He said he's never had any issues with it and the truck is reliable. He got it because it's good in the snow.

He was trying to help me out. I was trying to purchase acar without having to put a car note on my credit report. I'm trying torefinance myhome andI really don't have the money for a high car note. He was going to add me to the title and I would have to just pay the $260 monthly payments until $6500. If anything needs to be fixed on the truck, I know he would fix it before he gave it to me. Thanks for the advice. If there's anything else I should be looking at please let me know.

Hi Mike,

I decided to take the truck to the Land Rover Service center for a multi-check inspection. There are engine issues and a list of other issues that I do not want to get into. Needless to say, I will not be purchasing the truck. Thanks again for the advice.
