2001 Disco II Shuts Down
Don't use a meter, go to a local auto parts store and have them perform a free load test on both the battery and alternator.
If it is the crank sensor, you will not have a signal to fire the injectors, the cam sensor determines when the ECU should fire the plugs.

Pretty sure the crank sensor has to do with ignition as well. You said that it will turn over, but not start (once hot). Do you have spark at that time as well? The sensor starts working again after it cools down.
