Default 2001 Discovery II 17.4 MPG at 65MPH

Discovery II MPG tally - 1531 mile trip.

The ride on the Discovery II is decidedly HARSH compared to the Discovery I.
The Discovery II has a lot of road noise transmitted into the cabin.

For a long trip, as far as my opinion - Discovery I wins.
As far as ride quality.

A lot quieter. You also don't feel every bump.

Discovery II wins - as far as MPG and perhaps power up hills.

Here are my MPG stats:

Start Boulder, CO. Fri 1pm June 29th. Tank FULL.

14.122 Gallons $52.80 Rawlins, WY

15 gallons $58.90 Ogden UT

(Trip from Ogden to Park City, UT)

Excursion to Logan Utah

12.07 Gallons $46.84 Logan UT

15 Gallons (estimated) $58.90 Gallons Pilot - Twin Falls, ID

20.787 $83.34 gallons Richland, WA

11.877 Gallons $46.85 Kirkland, WA - July 1 (TANK FILLED)

___________________________
Totals

Gallons: 87.892
Cost: $312.65

Miles traveled: 1531

MPG= 1531/87.8932 = 17.418 MPG - driven at 65mph

Congrats on a successful trip! It was fun following your progress!

Your D2 should not ride like that... What is the status of your shocks and springs?

I can personally attest that aged front shocks will make you feel every ripple in the road surface. might wish to add suspension parts to your list. easy DIY on the shocks.

D2's usually ride better then D1's, look to other issues there. Suspension, chasis, bushing and tranny/firewall gromet loss add alot of unecessary noise on older vehicles. Its rather hard to compare ride quality between different vehicles, even of the same make, year and miliage. I have access to about a dozen fleet cars that are all the same model, and they all drive VERY differently, when they are all mostly the same year within a few, and miliage within a few thousand.

but that miliage is certainlty very good, consider these are very heavy, have horrible drag and drivetrain loss like one of those incredible machine game inventions!
