2001 Discovery SD won’t move
I have taken apart maybe 20-25 of these and have never seen one with this much metal in it. I spilled a lot getting it apart, would this keep it from positively catching any gears?
Try simple disconnect the drive shaft at the diff end
Chock other set of tires
Lift the diff free end in the air
Spin the tires
repeat for the other end
If the tires spin diff should be ok if they do not you have found your problem

It's not going to move with the front drive shaft off. Start it up, apply parking brake or hold foot on brake pedal, put it in drive and have someone slide underneath...l bet the front yoke on the transfer case is spinning. The transfer case sends power to the path of least resistance...and since the driveshaft us off...that would be that path. If you had CDL, you could lock it in and it would move without front shaft.
I have all 4 tires off the ground and front drive shaft off. When I spin the drivers side rear tire the passenger side doesn’t move ? And no combination of CDL, transfer case and Trans silk skin the tires.
That is not good, it should react the same on both ends, if both tires are in the air they should both spin. I did forget one thing your Disco needs to be in neutral, easier to spin for one and remove the transfer case transmission
The link video on how to test for open or LSD diff
you should see exactly the same on your Disco front and back.
You might want to drop the rear drive shaft just to make sure the issue is in the differential, but it sounds like it is shot.

Regarding the other suggestions, I agree with many of the posters. Put everything in neutral. Jack up the truck and place on jackstands, all four wheels are better. you should be able to reach up and turn the driveshafts. One wheel minimum should turn, ideally both. Turning one wheel should result in the opposite wheel turning.
Good luck.
