I have never heard of a TCM going bad, but if you want to try for zero dollars or close to it buy one off of ebay or one of the breakers and then resell it if it does not do anything. As far as swapping, the only differences are the 99-02 have the HP22 and the 03-04 have the HP24. I don't think there is much if any difference in TCM programming, although there is a slight length difference that needs to be accounted for in the rear driveshaft I believe. A search will tell you more, look for swapping hp22 for hp24

Default Well

So I was going to just remove the transmission but found that taking the transfer case out with it was easier doing it alone well with 4 floor jacks and 2 jack stands. When I separated the two the transfer case oil was terrible so I removed the cover and that’s what’s in the picture. Lots of what I would call large pieces of metal, that metal not being where it should be is keeping the transfer case in neutral. So that’s why it wouldn’t drive in either direction. Also the bolt that holds the trans shaft extension (I’m sure there is a word for it) was totally loose and dropped out when I separated them, but the two pieces were tight and no signs of grinding.

Needless to say my spare trans and transfer case are going in today. I am adding the CDL from an 04 so I’m sure I will have some issues. Thank you all for the help.
