Default 2002 Discovery 2 Change Trans Filter ?

I am original owner of 2002 Discovery 2 with 136,000K.As per owners manual I changed trans filter and fluid at 30,000k. I would like to change trans filter but owners manual states to change one time only.Sine manual says to change one time only should I change it again and can I cause damage by changing filter a second time ?

Only if you do it wrong.

You'll have to/want to change the fluid too...

The procedure is documented in the major service tab of this site as well as in the RAVE manual, It's an easy thing to DIY with how to info available using the search feature here, otherwise don't take to anyone other than a reputable Land Rover specialty independent shop or you will likely pay too much.

Welcome aboard!

Change Trans Filter ? quite a simple job, and yes LR tells you to change the filter at 30k and never mentions it again. I would continue to change them both .

It might be worth an e-mail to Ashcroft Transmissions www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk as they would know I'm sure. LR state 30K but I would imagine that to mean every 30K. I have changed my autobox filter 3 times to date with 120K milles on the speedo.

I change the trans filter and fluid every year. While that happens, the diffs get checked, the transfer as well. Grease the front shaft, etc. Its easy enough. There are moving parts, why not?

I wouldnt worry about it. I base this advice on the fact that I changed my transmission filter and fluid last year at about 140K miles and I'm pretty sure it was the original filter from the factory judging from the previous owners maintenance habits. That thing was so clean I was disappointed I had spent the money and taken the time to pull the pan to get to it. Not to mention the mess it makes. I do recommend doing the 5 quart exchanges periodically though. I dont do flushes. I've read too many horror stories about good, dependable transmissions failing afterwords. If it got changed at 30K I'm willing to bet it's just fine as long as the transmission is preforming well. Seems to me that the Transmission on these trucks is one of the most hearty parts of the truck, sealed very well. I guess thats a plus for not having a dip stick on it. 150K for me at this point and still shifting and pulling as good as it was in 2007 when I bought the thing. I'll never change my filter again unless I have some problems that suggest I should, but I do not expect to have any based on what I've seen so far.
