2003 Disco SE. 64,000 on the body, 14,000 on new engine. I have a misfire in cylinder 4. Service engine soon light on. Rover shakes when applying pressure to the gas pedal. Changed out the spark plugs, assured that all wires were connected securely, still nothing. Where should I go next? Coil pack? Other wires? I am kind of at a loss here and would like to get some further input before having to take it to a mechanic, especially if it is an easy fix.

 

If you don't have magnecor 8mm wires or kingborne (if you cannot afford magnecor) then start there.

Friend, I think you have something more in-depth than faulty wires. Even if you put wires on that couldn't handle the heat, or something like that, they wouldn't melt right away.

Is it misfiring constantly- even after it gets warm, it still misfires?

I am leaning toward an injector. I like the Magnecor 8mms (plus the blue wires look awesome), but good wires are less important than a constant misfire.

I may also have an injector going bad on my 2004, which is causing my #6 to misfire for the first 3-5 seconds after a cold start. I'm trying to figure out how to go about testing it, and if the engine will have to be torn apart for replacement.

I have seen many after market plug wires fail in months.

What brand of wire is currently on the engine, if you don't know the brand, what color are they?

 

I am assuming that it is shacking during idle as well right?

Could it be an o2 sensor? But I guess the code for that would have come up right?

 

Not a chance, 02's won't single out one cylinder and cause it to misfire.

 

The wires are gray and look to be extremely short. It was all serviced at Land Rover (before I got it) about 10,000 miles ago. There is no way in hell that the wires should be bad already, but I am being to that it is a wire issue. I am also being told that it is a more in depth job because my 03 has LEV. Does this sound right? I mean, it seems easy enough to access the wires without having to touch the LEV. $600 parts and labor........any thoughts?

 

Land Rover put in a "new" engine about 14,000 miles ago to the tune of $8000. (I was part of the batch of VIN #'s having problems with the oil pump). From the looks of it, there is NO WAY that Land Rover did $8000 worth of work. There is oil all over the engine which should not be there after 14,000 miles. I think the owner previous to me got screwed and now I am paying for it.
