RE: 2003 Discovery Purchase Advice
I have one too that is inside the VIN range and it has about 81k miles. Got it about 6 months ago. Dealership told me that all the regular maintenance was up to date and that there were no major mechanical repairs done yet. So, I went ahead with my purchase!

Thanks for all your usefull information I will try and answer all your questions.
They are asking 12,995 I got them down to 11,500.
It is slap bang in the middle of the VIN range, according to Landrover dealer no oil pump or engine change. SHould I still be worried as it has 60,000 already?
The back door sticks when almost half way open, but with force will open completly.
What are your thoughts?

$11,000 is way to much money for that truck.
You can pick one up for around $8,000. A couple of people on here have gotten 2004's for around $8k, one got his at auction, another just haggled and got a good deal.
As for the cargo door, the slider probally just needs to be lubed, open the door, look under it where the hinge meets the bumper, you will see a slider/door stop, there is a roller in there that rides on a track, it needs to be lubed every 6 months, bike chain lube works best.
With those miles you are probally fine, but I would walk away because of the asking price alone. I would also walk away just because it is a '03.
there are plenty of '03's out there that are fine, but since it is in the middle of the bad VIN# range I would keep looking.

Once again thanks for all your advice. I have given up on the 03 and am now looking at an 02 with 75,000 any advice on this one?

Take your time and look for an '04... It has a 4.6liter and some updated features that you may appreciate... Under $10k for an '04 with less than 50k miles would be my goal...

RE: 2003 Discovery Purchase Advice
The only problem is I am going out of town with work and the car is for my wife. I can't find any 04's that aren't stupid prices in my area. The 02 is $7,000. I will go and look at it on lunch. The other problem is I am looking for an SE7, which makes my search harder.
Thanks
