Default 2003 Engine Inquery

As stated in my other tread under the "Off Topic" section, I have the opportunity to "rent-to-buy" an 2003 Discovery S model. Has 117k and so far it just needs two 02 sensors on the rear end. Took it for a test drive and I did not hear any engine knocking or misfires. Seems very well put together and had great reaction time. So? Are "ALL" 2003 Disco's plagued by the notorious engine failure? If not which ones are and how do I determine if this Disco is in the range? In a worse case scenario how does one address the problem with this engine without getting rid of the truck? Swap with a 04 engine? Or. Are there any update kits available for this engine? I have no reason to belieave this Disco is affected by the issue and regardless I'm probably going to get it so I just want an idea what I'm dealing with.

2003 Disocovery Series II vin#: 3A771801-3A808362
that is the VIN range for the faulty oil pumps that caused early engine failure. my '03 is in the range and it has no issues with 123K miles on it now. i figure if it had the problem, it has been fixed, or it just doesn't have the problem. i'm planning to install an oil pressure gauge very soon. this is your instant tell if your pump gives out. if it does, stop driving immediately and repair the pump.
with 117k on the clock, i wouldn't worry much about it. but, an oil pressure gauge is a nice bit of reassurance while driving it.
keep it serviced and lubed and she'll treat you well.

My truck is also in the range but never had an issue other than ticking, finally overheated last year and replaced with an used 2004 motor. So far so good. It had 102k at the time of replacement.

Well that's all reassuring and I'm confident that this particular Disco will be alright. I'm not sure what the VIN is so I'll have to get that info from the seller. Where did you get your oil pressure gauge and how do you install it?

i'll be installing this. fits right onto the oil filter spot. then you just buy a oil pressure gauge from the same place and it has the sender you need.
Oil Filter Sender Adapter - 3/4 unf-16
