Default 7/27 Uodate

Broke the right front ABS cable at hard rock. Thankfully I was able to splice it back together with low heat solder seal wire connectors. Steering also became sloppy. I thought I had an alignment issue but it turn out the adjustment nut was loose. Easy fix.

Purchased an ARB digital inflator/deflator. This thing is awesome. Easy to air down and up and get an exact setting. Going to add this inline with my smittybilt compressor.

Stripped

Soldered

Wrapped

Looking forward to trying this out at Uwharrie.

Default 8/25 Update

Had some problems with the front diff. It was making loud howling noise while accelerating. The gear oil looked like gray sludge. Talked to Bill at GBR and he told me to send it back and they’d check it out. Hopefully it’s a quick fix.

Default 9/4 Update

Still waiting on a verdict on the front differential. Should hear back from Bill early next week. In the meantime I decided to do some repairs on the disco. Had a bunch of trail rash from Uwharrie and knocked a couple of panels loose. Simple fixes on the Dark Crow bumpers and sliders. Sand the rusty spots, wipe with acetone, prime and spray on some herculiner.

Default 10/2 Update

Finally got the front diff back from GBR. The long and short of it is that the person who assembled it was new and install rear parts in the front and front parts in the rear. It took a lot longer than I had hoped to get the fix shipped back to me but I will be glad to get the disco back on the road after waiting 5 weeks.

Today I am reinstalling the only front differential. I’ll be replacing the rear pinion flange in a week or two. Let’s hope today’s activities are uneventful.

It’s finally here!

So to just add to the complications, GBR swapped out the 4 bolt flange with the 3 bolt flange. I didn’t noticed it of course until I tried to attach the front driveshaft 🤬

So now I have to remove the current rear diff and replace it with this one. Then I need to take replace the old rear flange with the new 4 bolt flange. What a cluster.

I'm confused...why don't you just put four bolt flange on this diff?

Because the internals are meant for a rear diff. They assembled it wrong to begin.

No they did not screw up the second time - I just didn’t understand that they were going to fix the issue by replacing the flange. It’s just me being a noob and not paying attention.

In the end, it’s all good. People make mistakes. GBR is still the best out there. I’m just happy to have a path forward.

Now back to wrenching!

Got the rear diff in and filled it with redline. Still need to put the armor on it, add the rotors and calipers and wheels but I will get that done tomorrow. Also tomorrow I need to remove the 3 bolt flange and replace it with a four bolt so I can move it to the front. Will need to pick up a slide hammer at autozone tomorrow.
