Default 2004 disco ii engine issues

Hi, I'm new here. Need some advice and feedback about replacing or rebuilding the engine of my 2004 Disco II. I am in Houston TX, looking for reliable, professional, affordable mechanic that will solve the problem. Tried couple places and was unsuccessful. Wasted my time and money.
Also, anyone heard about the option of installing a Chevy engine instead?
Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

What is wrong with your 4.6L? HG? Slipped Sleeves?

The engine had light knocks from the beginning. Drove the car 2 years. Then suddenly it overheated. I never drove the car hot, immediately stopped and towed to a mechanic. They removed the HG attempting to fix it, replaced the radiator, valve #7 indicated a problem. They said they fixed it, but the car still had issues. The mechanic said it might have a crack in the block but nothing confirmed. Did not get a straight knowledgeable answer, that's why I am so frustrated, trying to find someone who understand these vehicles.

Did you try the LR shop up near Spring, TX? I've heard good things about them. They should have pressure tested the block while they had it apart.

I'd be happy to take a look at it, but I certainly don't have the space for another LR to be torn down. I have my friends 03 that he still hasn't picked up or called me about, and I'm about to tear into a replacement engine for my 04 so it'll be hogging most of my space until I get it done. After that I could possibly look at it.

There is a Chevy V8 conversion kit out there that retains all the Bosch sensors and it allows you to run a Chevy 4.8L V8. If I had the $$$$$ I'd certainly give that a go, but I don't so the LR engines will just have to do for now.

Thank you for your reply and offer to take a look. It won't happen soon anyway, lets keep it as an option. I assume you have a business doing that or hobby. I know it requires a lot of work. I'll check Chevy V8 conversion kit, am curious how much is it.
Thanks again.

The Search tool is your best friend on this forum -- this subject is just about all we talk about. There are also threads with pictures regarding the small block Chevy swap for you to dig into. Be forewarned, the swap is definitely a lot of work. If you have not already heard stay away from Cannibal V8 in OK -- he has developed a rather bad reputation.

Paul Grant gets reasonable mileage discos with rusted out frames on a semi-regular basis - hit him up for a motor and have someone put it in with a inline thermostat mod and new hoses and headgaskets.

Do you have more info on this swap by any chance?
