Default 2004 Disco II - Ignitioin Key

Can I use a copied key from a plan key-blank - no remote control, transponder chip, etc?

Thanks. I'm asking specifically about the 2004.I did it with a previously owned 2001, but I don't know when they went to the "chip keys."

I have a 2003, I purchased a blank LR key from ebay and had ACE cut the key, no problems, and when they scanned the key, there was no chip.

I'm gonna try that, it's worth a shot. I bought mine a year old and they only had 1 key with it, so I've only had 1 key for several years. Of all the things I spend money on for this truck, I couldn't justify the stupid $250 programming fee.

Getting warmer....thanks, but I need to know about the 2004 model year. I've done it with earlier models and it worked and saved me money, but I don't think it's "worth a shot" unless you know about the chip. I understand you can cause yourself quite an expensive repair bill if the chip is required.

Go to ACE hardware or anywhere else they cut keys and they should have a device that tells whether or not your key has a chip.

I have an '03 as well and was able to fab a key out of a different but close blank where I work. We have a scanner as well, and mine does not have a chip. The '04 is the same as the '03 as far as the keys go.
