Default 2004 Disco Tapping Noise coming from under car

I have a 2004 Disco SE 64,000 miles. I have noticed a tapping noise while the car is at idle (at lights, or when stopped) this occurs only after the car is warmed up and I have been driving it for around 20 mins or more. When i accelerate, the tapping noise abruptly stops and the car drives normally and sounds totally normal. The sound seems to be coming from directly under the engine or transmission area. When I peek my head out, it sounds like its coming from directly under me. Any ideas? I have not done the 60k service yet, but plan to soon......

1. Cracked flex plate (connects ring gear to transmission)

There have been a number of posts about this as a solution to one of the "ticks".

Just to make sure, you need to crawl under the truck to confirm the location of the noise while someone else is at the throttle.
If it is towards the front of the engine, but low down, you may also have a broken oil pump ring.

I second the "cracked flex-plate". I had symptoms similar to yours, turns out my flex-plate was cracked. Read this thread for more info.

I was thinking flex plate or cracked pump, but the goes away when under power seemed to sound like stress on flex plate, oil pump noise changes with speed, not torque. Pix of cracked oil pump.
