Of so i have had the Water pump replaced for like 1100 bucks and some other " leak" and the Truck still seems to lose antifreeze?? It doesnt seem to leak. It is garage kept and no leak? Can the Dicovery use Antifreeze? If you rive it for a bit u can smell antifreeze outside the truck. Truck has 67k miles on it. Please tell me its not that engine issue.

 

Just a quick update to the above. It does not overheat.

 

Yes the Discovery can use anti-freeze(any aluminum safe coolant, I use prestone, others use peak), and you need make sure it has enough at all times. Sounds like it's leaking while driving and possibly burning off on something. You need to get it pressure tested for leaks. Do you know what other maintenance has been done to it?

It could be the throttle body heater plate, which is just under the throttle body, right above the front of the driver side valve cover, there are two hoses connected to it. At 67k I don't think the headgaskets are the problem, but it's possible. Have you tried to measure how much coolant you are losing?

For the time being make sure the coolant is topped off. When you do also consider bleeding the air out of the coolant system. You do this with the engine cold, unsnap the coolant reservoir(remove cap) and hold about 8 inches above the top radiator hose(it has a plastic T), then loosen the bleed screw and burp the system out until a steady stream of coolant comes out of the bleed hole. Then retighten, replace coolant tank, then top off with coolant.

 

No other repairs other than the water pump themo. I have only had this for 8 months.

if a leak was at the throttle body heat plate would it make a sissle sound very once an awhile after i turn off the car?

 

It possibly could, but now that I think about it you would see a small drip on the floor at some point I would think. That's how I noticed mine leaking. Sissling would be from hot coolant hitting anything. The best way to tell if it was leaking would be to pop the hood and look at it. You should see some wetness. Have a good look around at your hoses too.

By the way, the coolant in your reservoir, is it pink/reddish or another color?
