Hello! I'm new the the forums and new to Land Rovers in general so please forgive my ignorance.

I've recently purchased my first Land Rover.
It needed a few things, just thought I'd list what I've done & need to do.
Maybe some advice on the items not yet completed would be nice.

Cracked Windshield - Replaced - $150
Rear Driver Side Tail Light Cracked - Replaced - $60
Front Driver Side Fog Light Cracked - Replaced - $80
45º Front Differential Play/Slop (Replaced 3rd Member) - $217 Part / $275 Labor
Hand Brake Light Stuck On - Fixed - Added Brake Fluid

Three Amigos (Codes Read Shuttle Valves & Front Wheel Speed Sensor. (Not Replaced) They cleared the codes, and the lights haven't come back.
Rear Bumper Cracked - Not Replaced
Passenger Doors (Front & Rear) Will not unlock - Not Addressed
Belt Squealing When Cold (Only When Heater is on) - Not Addressed

I'm slowly working through all these issues, I'm going to need tires and brakes soon. (Expensive)
In the meantime, the oil looks good, but I'd like to have all the fluids done, just for preventative maintenance.

I've read SO MANY horror stories of Disco II's around 100,000 Miles and I obviously want to avoid the common head gasket issues, and everything else these trucks commonly have.

I guess I'm asking what preventative measures should I take having just bought the truck? Or common repairs that you guys recommend I have done?
I know very little about the trucks history, the CARFAX I ran was last updated at 59,000 Miles and obviously that was a while ago.
So far I absolutely adore this vehicle, I've wanted one for years, and I'd like to maintain it properly, without lining the Dealerships pockets.

Read the Major Service sticky at the top of this forum, do all of that stuff.

Can you tell by looking if the Head Gaskets have been done? are the heads clean like shiny aluminium or are they aged looking? you should be coming up on time to do that if they haven't been addressed yet, they will soon.

On that note buy an Ultra Gauge or other real time OBDII reader so you can get live data, especially temperature. The onboard temp gauge is a poor idiot light in disguise.

You will want the 180 degree thermostat, OEM for a Diesel D2.

Watch the coolant levels... weekly at the very least... check the level on the side of the overflow tank when cold. this will be your early clue about the HG's. Oh yes, make sure the coolant is not orange. if orange, flush and change when you put in 180 degree stat.

You can do the brakes yourself pretty easily. other than having a friend help bleed the system. Akebono euro pads. Search button for details.
