Hello I'm looking to buy a 2004 land rover discovery but had a couple of question about them do they come with the center diff. lock. Is there anything I should look for when buying one also I've done alot of research on the internet and read that they break down all the time and have all kinds of problems is this true or not, I thought this would be the best place to ask that question. Thanks for your input.

 

I added a 2004 SE7 to the herd and it is great.

The 2004 has the CDL in the lever.

In my opinion, the 2004 is the best year for the Disco.

 

The 2004 is the best year for the Discovery 2s. Being the last year that the Discovery was made, in the US market anyway, they have all the best that is offered in a Discovery. (Overseas, the LR3 is called the Discovery 3.) If you have the budget to buy a 2004 then I would definitely say buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Land Rover reliability is a very skewed statistic. There are definitely some Discos out there that are very problematic but for the most part they are simply maintenance intensive. These are not vehicles that you can neglect maintenance and think it will just keep going without a problem. You'll notice that the people on this forum who have good luck with their Disco and wouldn't trade them are the people that are really picky about maintenance. And by maintenance I mean more than just oil changes. They change all the fluids in the truck on a regular basis and they know the truck inside and out.

What do you plan to use the Disco for, do you have any wheeling experience and how mechanical are you?
