4.0 engine in an 03 disco
I threw in a 2000 disco ecu bosch 4.0 into my 4.6 bosch, she starts for maybe a second or two nothing more. Seems to shut the fuel off as it does keep producing a spark if I keep spinning the engine over.
Donor motor will be here Friday. I am thinking of at least swapping out the heads with the 4.6 (SAI) ones I have that appear to be in very good condition. I am wondering if changing the Cam to the 4.6 one is in order?
That's strange. I drove mine around with a 4.6 swapped in and didn't change anything electronic.
Both vehicles run and drive, i did the immobilized trick to both cars before pulling anything, put the 4.0 ecu into the 4.6 donor car (only ecu), cranks and fires up for 1-2 seconds and nothing else until the key is cycled. Going to rebuild the 4.0 engine after I get this sorted out, my 4.6 at the moment has a noticeable tack from the lower end.... typical LR

I know my input on this thread is opposite of what you need to know because you are going the other direction than I went, presumably because the 4.0 is generally accepted to be more reliable. But I did not mess with the immobilizer or swap any electronics at all. And I swapped back to the 4.0. I think your original stuff is good (with the small exception of an ECU that expects ridiculous SAI components).
My original truck is non SAI. The 4.6 I rebuilt and destroyed was from an SAI truck. I just plugged the SAI holes with chopped and filled SAI lines....
you should be able to do the reverse of necessary...
