Default 94 Disco Brakes...

So, I am on a new computer, and the frigging rave manual is not working for me, I am doing my brakes.. What size it socket do I need for the front calipers??? I am walking up to the HW store to get them, dont want to make several trips.. Thought I had everything I needed, then I came across those friggin odd bolts!! DOH!!

Oh and I was going to buy the specialty C-Clamp and didnt because someone was like, any C-Clamp will do, now Im looking at it and cant get my c-clamp in there to compress the damn thing unless i take the caliper off... GROWWWLL

Made a Clamp work by cutting it down...

Damn damn damn... one of the pistons is corroded and will not compress, Ive never rebuilt a caliper before, and on top of that, the local Land Rover dealer doesnt have the part anyhow... and to add insult to injury, I cant get the rave PDF to work....

Oh and like a dumbass before i realized it was a star bolt I put a 14mm Socket on the bolt and it fit so I went to turn it, it slipped, I did it again, it slipped, then I put my head to look at it and... What do you know, its a star bolt, I had read this before.. but this info had just floated away in my brain.. hope the damn thing doesnt strip out when I get the right socket on it!!!!! AAARRGH!!!

I dont know what size socket it is.
I have a set of star and allen sockets in 3/8" drive for just such a situation.
My truck came with brand new brakes so I have yet to do them on mine.

Praise the lord... I figured there is no way that a 12 pt socket would work, (as they probably engineer them to be difficult to work on) and went all over town looking for the specialty socket.. When I couldnt find it, tried my 13mm (Lucky 13) 12 pt socket, and VWALLA!!! it worked!!

Found rebuilt calipers, $70 for drivers $68 for passneger, be here tomorrow (fingers crossed) much better than rebuilding them IMHO!

Update Tomorrow!

Ok the damn passenger side rotor is mildly chewed.. it stopped squeaking (so I knew it was grinding) and drove it straight home, but still on the inside it has a mark probably 3/8 of an inch thick and not very deep, probably 0.3 millimeter, thinking of just throwing the pads on there, but Im sure they will squeel and squall and make all kinds of racket, can I replace just one rotor?? I dont need to replace them in pairs do I??

Yes you need to replace rotors in pairs, just like brake pads.
I wouldn't worry about it.
The new pads will still seat into the old rotors, might make noise for the first few thousand miles but so what.
