96' DI starting problems
Yes a dirty throttle body can cause rough run problems.
Do you have the O2's in the correct places?
A bad fuel temp sensor will cause a rough idle.
When the VSS goes bad it cuts spark.
If the coolant temp sensor is sending the wrong signal to the ECU, like saying the engine is cold, it will over fuel the engine because a cold engine needs more fuel than a hot engine.
So here is where I would start, clean the throttle body, clear the codes.
If the coolant temp one comes back replace it.
Clear the codes.
Just do one thing at a time.
My wifes car was running rich, the coolant temp sensor was bad, temp gauge read normal but with my scanner hooked up it was running to cold, 180*F on the expressway and 170*F in town so the ECU was just dumping fuel into it.
Replaced it and now all is good.

Amazing stuff, carb cleaner is. I just sprayed some into the throttle body, reassembled the intake tube, and it started right up. I think I'll spray the rest in, and take it for a spin to see what codes come back. Thanks Spike.
